This section will describe how to use this system WITHOUT the use of Verbatim by any parts of your squad.
a. You will want to use the following google template. You will need to make a copy.
b. goto file menu in the upper left hand corner
c. Select Make a copy
d. Make sure to follow your Header rules. DebateVibe still relies upon you following the Verbatim logic for file creation. For example, tags need to be in heading 4.
If you want to make every google drive file look the same for their headers and font choices learn here
How to cut a card reference point here.
Want a quick crash course as to why headers are important, reference this other paperless systems explanation as to how headers work in paperless debate (Only watch from 2:00-5:08, otherwise discusses specifics to other paperless system)
e. THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT -- When you are cutting cards, you need to make sure the text of your card is CLEAN. This means when you copy text from a website, you need to use "paste without formatting". The hotkey for that in most word processors is "Ctrl+Shift+V".
f. IF Evidence is removing highlighting or completely highlighted-- This means your evidence text was not clean when the evidence was first constructed!! To permanently fix evidence problems, you want to open the original document and select the culprit text. Then 'cut' the text. This is done with a hotkey of "Ctrl+X". Then repaste the text using "paste without formatting" (Ctrl+Shift+V). This will make the text have no formatting (underlining, bold, highlighting etc). You will then re-underline, re-highlight, re-bold the card. This will then allow the evidence to be ready to be imported into the system correctly.
This is extremely important. DebateVibe can only import (AKA upload) locally saved files. This means your files should NOT be on the cloud.
The file formats DebateVibe works with are .html, .txt, .doc, .docx, and .odt. Unless you are doing all file creation on DebateVibe, .html should not be used. I am unsure of a world where .txt would be used.
The good news is if you are NOT changing (highlighting etc) camp files, you are going to be able to just use them without converting to google docs.
Other Good news, is if you are making your files in google docs, the mass download features will ensure your files are downloaded and converted to .docx. This should be done without formatting issues. This means before the tournament, your students can download their files/master files from google drive and it should instantly be ready for DebateVibe. Here is how;
You want to located the parent folder. In the example below, you can see I have a "Debate Files" folder, and the topic folder, is the one I want to download. In this case its "Arctic"
2. You will want to click the down arrow to the right of the Arctic folder.
3. Click Download. This will create a .zip file of all the files on your google drive. This .zip file will be in their "Downloads" folder in the "Files" application. From there they will want to "Extract All"
4. After you extract all, it will create the same folder nesting you had within google drive. The files will now be in .docx format for easy debating.
